Ann M. Togneri

Ann Marie (Richardson) Togneri, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be profoundly missed.

Born in Hawley, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Geisler) Richardson. She was an only child.

Growing up in Watertown, New York, she graduated from the Immaculate Heart Academy in 1947. Ann was a bright and diligent student, and a talented musician; she played the piano and organ at church and community functions.

Ann was a proud alumnus of the Albany College of Pharmacy, where she met her husband, John Togneri, a World War II veteran. She graduated in 1951, and they were married in October of that same year. In 1952, they moved to Glen Head, Long Island, New York, where John worked for, and later owned, Glen Head Pharmacy.

While raising her family, Ann started volunteering at the Glen Cove Hospital advancing to president of the volunteers' association. Her dedication and leadership in areas of fundraising, advocacy, and outreach programs led to an 18-year span of serving on boards, becoming president of the Nassau-Suffolk Council of Hospital Auxiliaries, and being appointed to the HANYS Statewide Hospital Association.

Ann enjoyed gardening, cooking, walking at Jones Beach, and reading the New York Times from cover to cover every day.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Known as Grandma Togs, she cherished her time with them, especially the family dinners, lacrosse games, and visits to upstate New York.

At Glenmeadow Retirement Community, her home for 8 years, Ann flourished with revived purpose and joy in the unique sharing and support of new friends and caring staff. She was grateful for special friends: Beth Young, Ann Thomas, Shirley Marcel, Merle Ryan, and the Friday dinner-singing group.

Never again an only child, Ann was blessed with a devoted and loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Christine, in 2014 and husband, John in 2015.

She leaves a son, Bill & wife Kathy Tremble, of Longmeadow, granddaughter, Jacqueline & husband Damien Harrison, and Damien’s brother, Peter Harrison all of Brooklyn, NY, grandsons, John & wife Julia (Penrose) of Darien, CT, and Nicholas & wife Lauren (Sleeper) of Longmeadow, and great-grandchildren, Frances, Rosie, Henry, Parker, Ella, & William. Ann also leaves her extended Tremble family, many cousins on Long Island, NY, and nephews & nieces in Turners Falls, MA.

The family offers a heartfelt thank you to Ann's gifted and special group of long-time and recent caregivers including Dr. Francis Murray & staff of Springfield Medical Associates, Dr. David Lally & staff of New England Retina, Doctors Barry Jacobs & Alison Cavanaugh of ENT of Western New England, The Assisted Living Unit & staff of the Glenmeadow Retirement Community, occupational therapist Allison Gendron of HealthPRO, nurse Beverly Burns & social worker Ellen Rosemond of Legacy Lifecare Hospice, and caregivers Aldith Arkins & Angella Martin of Aldith’s Healing Hands.

Family and friends are invited to a mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25th at St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow. There will be no calling hours, and her burial will be held privately at the MA Memorial Veterans' Cemetery in Agawam.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Glenmeadow Staff Appreciation Fund, 24 Tabor Crossing, Longmeadow, MA, 01106.
