Barbara Ellen (Strong) Chisholm, 78, of Chicopee was Called Home on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. She passed away into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on April 28, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late Arthur & Grace (Bates) Strong. Barbara was raised and attended schools in West Springfield. She was a secretary for many years at the Springfield Cemetery. She enjoyed playing scrabble, bowling, collecting anything skunk related, traveling, playing the organ/piano, and most importantly serving our Lord. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Leon Chisholm, having been blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. She also leaves her children, son Walter Chisholm and his wife Rhonda of Springfield, son Douglas Chisholm and his fiancéeDoris Jones of Springfield, son Mike Chisholm and his wife Renee of East Longmeadow, daughter Gloria Bartholomew of Worcester, step daughters Lee Killayand fiancée Tom of Leominster, and step daughter Debbie McDonald and her husband Bill of Tennessee, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, her brother Gordon Strong of West Springfield, her sister Esther Black of West Springfield, her sister Irma Reed of Arkansas, her sister Norma Hopper of California and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Chisholm and Strong families. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her granddaughter Crystal Chisholm, her brother Harvey Strong, and sister Dorothy Bailey. Barbara’s funeral Prayer service will begin at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust St. in Springfield. Her burial will follow, at 2 p.m., at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the American Heart Association.
