Barbara F. Scavone


Barbara Florence (Gardner) Scavone, 91, passed away peacefully August 5, 2022. Born in Springfield on March 23, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ralph & Helen (Connelly) Gardner.


Barbara was born in the North End of Springfield. She attended Trade High School where she met the love of her life, Dominic, a “South End Kid.” They married right after graduation starting their life together on Columbus Avenue. The construction of Interstate 91 forced them out of their home. They built a home in Sixteen Acres, raising a family, making wonderful memories, and establishing lifelong friendships over 50 years, before Barbara moved to East Longmeadow.


Barbara worked as a cook for the Springfield School Department and was a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, later attending mass at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Sixteen Acres.


Along with her beloved husband, Dominic, she was predeceased by her sons, Stephen & Gerard Scavone, and brother, Robert Gardner.


Barbara is survived by her devoted sons, Daniel & his wife Paula of NH, and William & his wife Mia of NJ, grandchildren, Brian & his wife Noosha, Kristen, Will, Jennie, and Christina Scavone, great-grandson, Griffin, and daughter-in-law, Claire, along with other, dear, extended family.


Funeral services will begin Friday, August 12, 9 a.m. at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield, proceeding to Barbara’s 10 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
