Emilia Capuano


Emilia (Barbato) Capuano, 96, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Born September 4, 1923 in Casali, Italy, she was the daughter of the late, Marco & Giovanna (Arcucci) Barbato, and immigrated to Springfield, Massachusetts in 1971.

Emilia worked for many years as a chef at Nardi’s Restaurant in Springfield. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her recipes with her family which will be passed down for generations. Her pastime included gardening, maintaining her home and feeding the various wildlife that surrounded her yard.

She is predeceased by her husband Pantaleone who passed away in October of 1985. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Maria Capuano of Springfield, Anna Mineo & husband Joseph Mineo of Agawam, and her son Mario Capuano of Perpignan, France. She alsoleaves behind her grandchildren, Farzad Dourian &fiancé Theary Ameri of Seattle, Sarah Hedges & husband Ryan of Southwick, Carmino Mineo & wife Lauren of Agawam, Luca Mineo & wife Briana of Springfield, and Joanna Mineo & boyfriend Salvatore of Agawam; as well as her great-grandchildren, Colin & Luke Hedges of Southwick, and many nieces & nephews in Italy.

A private entombment was held at the Hillcrest Park Mausoleum in Springfield.

As was her wish, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to: Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 113 Lyman Road, Chicopee, MA 01020, of which she was a devoted member.

I am so sorry. I just heard that Emilia has passed away. Jehovah has a new angel watching over us. I am praying for Emilia and her whole family. She was truly special and loved by all who knew her.

My aunt will always be remembered as loving person. I cherish our times together as wonderful memories. She would remissness of past family " togetherness", sharing homemade Italian food and wine. She had such a love for every aspect life and shared that with all of us. We are all blessed.I will miss her dearly .
