Evelyn (Steele) Groll Beer, 106, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2020. Born in Enfield, Connecticut on July 24, 1914, she was the daughter of the late James and Sophia Steele. She attended Enfield public schools.
Evelyn lived most of her life in Springfield, where she worked for Carlisle’s store and then for Albert Steiger Co., from which she retired in 1983 after 19 years.
She was married for 52 years to Frederick Groll, who passed away in 1985, and for 10 years to Julius H. Beer, who passed away in 2016. She had two children: Barbara Groll Fenlason, who passed away in 1968, and Herbert Groll, who passed away in 1997.
She leaves grandchildren Laurie Fenlason (Geneva Brinton), Jeffrey Fenlason (Kristin Morton), Jason Fenlason (Abby Fenlason) and Herbert Groll, Jr.; son- in-law James Fenlason (Linda Fenlason); great-grandchildren Isabel, Rylee, Kyle, Mallory and Colleen; and several nieces, nephews & their families.
Evelyn had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vernon, CT, and participated in the activities of the Hungry Hill Senior Center and the seniors’ group at Our Lady of Hope Church, both in Springfield.
Evelyn’s funeral services were private. Gifts in her memory may be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA, 01104.
