Gaida Dzenis


Gaida (Sͮterns) Dzenis, 88, passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on June 2, 2021. She was born in Gulbene, Latvia on August 7, 1932. Gaida’s family escaped the Russian invasion during WWII and lived in Germany until they came to the United States and settled in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1950. Gaida married Talivaldis “Tal” Dzenis and lived in Pennsylvania for several years until they relocated to Western Massachusetts. Gaida was a long-time resident of Westfield and Springfield and enjoyed a successful career as a real estate agent and broker for more than 30 years. She lives behind her sister, Sarmite Sandra Straupenieks; her nieces, Laura Straupenieks; Anita Straupenieks and husband, Andris “Andy” Seglins; her second cousin, Gita Morris-Vāgenheima; her beloved, “beautiful cat,” Pasha; long-time friend and caretaker, Vida Zavala; Astra Vilinskis; and many others. She is predeceased by her father, Sasͮa Sͮterns; mother, Milda Elizabete (Bergmanis) iSͮterns; sister, Ginta Sͮterns; and ex-husband Talivaldis Dzenis. Many heartfelt thanks to Brenda Rodriguez, Niasha Armstrong, and other wonderful aides who lovingly provided care and companionship to Gaida for the past two years; and to her kind and caring doctor, Dr. Maryam Hasan. A small, private service was held at Springfield Cemetery, on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
