George Vumbaca

George Vumbaca, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Martone, Province of Reggio Calabria, Italy, he was the son of the late John & Catherine Vumbaca.

At age 13, George joined his parents in New London, Connecticut, moving to Springfield soon after. Before its relocation, he was a foreman and Union President for Hampden Grinding Wheel. He then worked as a custodian for East Longmeadow High School. He had been retired for 33 years. During retirement, he enjoyed traveling all over the world, and always took immense joy in family visits. He took great pride in his homemade soppressata and wine, a tradition his family continues to this day.

Sadly, George was predeceased by his baby brother George and sister Giuseppina.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ersilia(Circosta); children, Dino & wife Jeanne of Hopkinton, Gina Paradis & husband Luke of Hampden, and Marisa & husband Billy White of San Francisco; grandchildren Remy, Natascia, Max, Dennis, Henry, Lizzie, Maya & Oliver; and great-grandchildren Austin, Joël & Reina. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and family in Australia, Canada, France, Italy and throughout the United States.

Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, December 23, 9-10 a.m. at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield, proceeding to George’s 11 a.m. Liturgy of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Please note, at the families’ respectful request during these uncertain times, masks are required.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Danny Thomas’ St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
