Giuseppe Calabrese, 84, passed into eternal rest March 31, 2020. Born in Striano, Napoli, Italy, April 21, 1935, he was the son of Pasquale and Ersilia (Moccia) Calabrese.
Giuseppe served in the Italian Army. In Italy, he made and sold Calabrese wine with his father. This was a passion that he continued throughout his life. He also worked as a carpenter.
He came to the United States on December 8, 1970, and worked as a finish polisher at Smith & Wesson for 22 years. After retirement Giuseppe worked at S.T.C.C., where he especially enjoyed interacting with the students.
His greatest enjoyments were being with his family & friends, and having everyone around the table for a great meal. He could be seen all over, taking his long daily walks. Giuseppe was a member of the Mt. Carmel Society and enjoyed playing bocce on it's team and with friends. He was very passionate about soccer, especially his beloved Napoli and the Italian National Team. He was a Parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield since coming to America.
Giuseppe leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Giovanna (Corvino) Calabrese, their children, Pasquale, Crescenzo, & Giuseppe Calabrese, Vincenzina (Tommy) D’Agostino, and Emilia (Joe) Chiarella, grandchildren, Francesco, Giancarlo, Bianca (Bogosian), Tommaso D’Agostino, Nicole (Chew), Michael Scibelli, Gia, Christina, Karissa Calabrese, Vanessa, Juliana Chiarella, and his 7 great-grandchildren.
He also leaves his brother, Giovanni, sisters, Vincenza Grimaldi, Giuseppa Citro, Emilia Silvestri, and son-in-law, Michael Scibelli.
Sadly, Giuseppe was predeceased by his daughter, Maria Rosaria Scibelli, grandson, Robert, brother, Crescenzo, and sister, Rosetta Corvino.
Giuseppe will be privately laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A Memorial Mass, for family & friends, will be held at a later date.
