James M. Wingard

James (Jim) M. Wingard, 82, passed away peacefully, on September 30, 2021.

Born in Springfield, he was the son of the late Malcolm & Mabel (Marshall) Wingard.

Jim was a lifelong resident of Springfield, he was a 1957 graduate of Springfield’s Technical High School, a Veteran of the US Army, and a 1966 graduate of American International College. In 1974 he married the late Regina (Chechette) Wingard.

Jim spent his career as a Social worker for the state of Massachusetts. He was an active member of the Springfield YMCA, an avid runner, and enjoyed hiking and being out in nature with friends and family. On weekends he enjoyed listening to the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood and on Sundays he could be found drinking coffee and reading the paper or a good book - and he always enjoyed a good game of chess.

Jim will be dearly missed by his sister, Margaret Alldredge & husband, Andrew Selden, of MN. His son, David & wife Erin of the Bronx, NY; and son, John of Tuscaloosa, AL. He was a proud grandpa to Alex, Violet, Eleanor, Tommy & Serafina - who will miss Papa Jim very much.

Family and friends are invited to visit Thursday, October 14, 4-6 p.m. at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield. James’ funeral service will begin Friday morning, 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home, proceeding to his 11 a.m.burial, with full military honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Masks are required in the funeral home.

Jim spent his career dedicated to the needs of children; memorial donations may be made to the YMCA of Springfield.

We are so sorry we will not be able to attend Jim's services. We always enjoyed seeing him at family gatherings. He was a loving husband to Regina. We miss them both and are sending love and prayers to David, John and all the grandchildren.
