Joseph John Sapelli, III, 63, passed away at home on October 21, 2022. Born in Springfield, he was the son of the late Joseph J. & Antonetta (Cuoco) Sapelli, Jr.
Raised and educated in West Springfield, Joe was an avid trumpet player in the high school band, he graduated from West Springfield High School in 1976. He attended Tabor Academy in Marion, MA. after which he began working at the Springfield Country Club, later becoming manager. Joe then went on to the University of Connecticut, studying corporate management & organizational studies where he graduated with both a bachelors & master’s degree in Computer Science and Information Technology, he went on to work at The Hartford Insurance Companyfor over 20 years as an Operational Specialist, then he worked at IBM as a Senior IT Specialist for over 10years; recently working at Costco and Home Depot.
He loved volunteering his time cooking at both, the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society in Enfield, CT, especially for the Italian Feast, where he served as Vice President and Director of Food Service Operations for over 15 years and at the Italian Cultural Center in Springfield. Joe enjoyed teaching his family how to make all the traditional Italian dishes like homemade ravioli’s, and tortellini’s, just to mention a few. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially to Italy. Most of all Joe loved his family and all the Italian traditions especially the classic Italian Holiday meal of the Feast of the Seven Fishes.
Joe leaves his loving sisters, Lisa A. Clough & husband Jonathan of Jaffrey, NH, Rosanne M. Mastrangelo & husband John of Springfield, treasured nephews & nieces, John J. & Regina M. Mastrangelo of Springfield, Natalie (Clough) Gardner & husband Jace & their daughter Isabella of Maple Hill, NC, James T. Clough of Jaffrey, NH, and aunt, Mary Vogliazzo, along with many cousins & close friends.
All are invited to visit Friday, October 28, from 3-5 p.m. at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield. On Saturday we will meet at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 William Street for Joe’s 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy. Please enter from Margaret Street just before the Italian Cultural Center on the right. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery’s Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum.
