Lea (Baraldi) Scibelli, 105, passed away, due to Covid-19, on May 18, 2020, at Heritage Hall East (HHE) in Agawam. Born in Springfield on October 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Secondo & Amabile (Luppi) Baraldi.
Lea was raised in Springfield, attended local schools and was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (OLMCC). She was a hairdresser in her earlier years. Later, Lea supported the political career of her husband, the late State Rep. Anthony M. Scibelli, who said that Lea gave him valuable political advice from time to time.
Lea enjoyed time spent at the beach in Old Lyme, CT; she was a talented artist and sculptor; and as a competitive golfer, Lea won many tournaments, was a longtime member of the Ludlow Country Club, and was an avid viewer of golf on TV. For many years she was a loving & dedicated caregiver to her sister Clara.
For the past six years, Lea's loving "family" were her caregivers at HHE; Lea enjoyed them & they enjoyed Lea. She was an active participant in group activities and would move around in her wheelchair ministering to those she thought needed a little extra human touch. Baystate Hospice's loving care, along with her loving daily caregivers, helped Lea to peacefully transition into God's care.
Lea is survived by her nephews, Robert Baraldi & family of Longmeadow, Richard Baraldi of Springfield, William Baraldi, wife Lee & family of Metairie, LA, and Andrew Scibelli, wife Kitti & family of Brewster, MA.
She was also predeceased by her brother & sisters, Joseph, Eva & Clara Baraldi.
Lea was laid to rest, in a private Christian burial ceremony, at St. Michael's Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in OLMCC at a later date.
Donations in Lea's memory may be made to: OLMCC, 123 William St., Springfield, MA 01105, or Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01199.
