Lena Teresa (Cattoni) Cocchi, 95, a long-time Springfield resident and recently of Agawam, passed peacefully into eternal life on Friday, November 20, 2020.
Born at home in the South End of Springfield on March 29, 1925, she was the daughter of Giovanni and Michelina (Chechile) Cattoni.
Lena was a long time Payroll Manager of the Springfield Street Railway Company and retired in 1987. A life-long communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, she was a member of its Women’s Guild; as well as a long-time member of the Springfield Golden Age Club and several senior centers in the greater Springfield area.
Lena, Lina in Italian, was a homemaker, an excellent cook and hostess, especially renowned for her Italian Christmas Eve celebration with family and friends.
She leaves daughters, Linda Allen & husband Ronald of Feeding Hills and Dorothy Di Venuto & husband Michael of Agawam, grandchildren, Andrew Allen of Southwick, Amy Hunleth of Suffield, CT, Elena Trotta of Longmeadow, and Dominic Di Venuto of Scarsdale, NY. Lena also leaves 10 great-grandchildren and a special cousin, Rose Normand of Springfield & family.
Besides her parents, Lena was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Joseph P. Cocchi in 2003, sister, Olga Siracuse, brother, William Cattoni, and beloved granddaughter, Francesca Di Venuto.
A special thank you to the staff of Heritage Hall Nursing Home for their care and kind attention to Lena over the last several months, in particular, Yvonne, Elaine, Ralph and Denise.
Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, November 28, 9-10 a.m. at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust St. in Springfield; proceeding to Lena’s 11 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with burial to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Masks & social distancing required at all.
