Margaret Mary Galvin, 91, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2020, surrounded in her final days by her loving family.
Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late John & Margaret (O’Connor) Galvin.
Known to many as “Auntie Peg” or “Miss Peggy,” she enjoyed watching the Red Sox, tuning in to her favorite Channel 22, buying the occasional lottery ticket, spending time with her furry friends Bacon and Berlin, and going to the movies. Margaret was known for her wit and for showering family & friends with gifts. She loved her family dearly and was a constant feature on the sideline of her nephew’s sporting events, no matter their age. She also proudly worked at Buxton for over 58 years, during which time she was an avid bowler.
Margaret will be dearly missed by her niece, Donna Stelzer & husband Paul, their son, Ryan Stelzer & wife Git Nahmens, nephew, John Garde & wife Lisa, their sons, Anthony & Nicholas, all of Westfield, as well as her brother-in-law, Deacon Joseph Garde & wife Barbara of Springfield, and close friend, Olive Wheatley of Springfield. She was predeceased by her sister, Claire Garde, dear cousin, Betty Canning, and friend, Dolores Jones.
The family would like to thank her neighbors for all of the assistance they provided over the years; notably Ernie Poole, The Thomas Family, Ed Jackson, and the late Marie LaPierre.
A special thank you also goes to the kind staff at Springfield’s Walmart on Boston Road, Fresh Acres, and Bruno’s Pizza.
Family and friends are invited to Margaret’s Liturgy of Christian Burial, Tuesday, November 17, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required at all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Red Sox Foundation, 4 Jersey St., Boston, MA 02215 or The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
