Maryann Rose (Cerasa) Baadj, 68, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022. She was born on December 23, 1953, in Springfield to Serafino and Olimpia (Panighetti) Cerasa.
She was a graduate of the former Classical High School in Springfield, Ithaca College, and American International College. She began her career as a French teacher at Classical High School in the late 1970s and later taught French and Spanish at Easthampton High School from 1989 until her retirement in 2014.
Maryann was adored by her students, many of whom travelled abroad with her for their first time. Maryann was an avid rower and devoted member of her boat family, the Springfield Dragon Rays. She also volunteered regularly at Kate’s Kitchen in Holyoke.
She is deeply loved and missed by her husband of 48 years, Najib Baadj, two children, Amar Baadj and Nadia (Baadj) Groeneveld, granddaughter, Serafina Groeneveld, sister, Jeannie (Cerasa) DeBari, brothers, Joseph and Donald Cerasa, and her beloved dog, Dante.
Funeral services will begin Wednesday, August 3, 9 a.m. at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield, proceeding to Maryann’s 10:00 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Her committal will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kate’s Kitchen, or the American Cancer Society.
