Peter O. Vogliazzo


Peter Oreste Vogliazzo, 74, veteran of the U.S. Army, died unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at home on August 29, 2020. He was born in Springfield and attended Springfield schools including Western New England College.  He leaves behind his loving wife Josephine (Botta) Vogliazzo and many close family members & friends.

Peter was a gentleman and a true friend to many in need. An athlete all his life, he played, coached and refereed hockey and was a member of the Springfield Hockey Heritage Society. Peter was an avid Nascar enthusiast and played softball on The Relics with all his old-time friends. He was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #325 and Pioneer Valley Yacht Club.

Peter retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections in 2009. After retirement, he enjoyed many happy summers at his cottage on Big Alum Lake and on his pontoon boat, “Pocket Change.”


A Communicant of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow, family and friends are invited to Peter’s Liturgy of Christian Burial, Wednesday, September 2, 11:30 a.m., followed by his burial, with full military honors, at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield. Masks & social distancing required at both.

I worked with Pete for many years.In the Department of Corrections Transportation unit.Pete was always a gentleman.And always had a joke to tell.To make the shift better.My condolences to his wife and family.From Ed O’Reardon.

i was honored to know Pete from the Old Timers wednesday hockey league and our annual Montreal trip for hockey in Dorval and cultural exchange with hockey player from both sides of the border. pete was a true gentleman and friend to all as so eloquently stated in the obit.
