Richard W. Marek, Sr.


Richard Walter Marek, Sr., 89, sadly, passed away June 5, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center.


Born in Chicopee on August 23, 1932, he was the son of the late Rudolph & Stella (Skrobot) Marek, Sr.

A lifelong resident of Chicopee, Richard graduatedfrom Vocational High School in 1950, then served proudly in the United States Navy, Army, and Air Force; he continued to serve in the Reserves for many years. After working in stock rooms and supplies for most of his career, he later enjoyed working with Olde Towne Caterers in S. Hadley.


He was an amazing man who truly inspired others and spread joy wherever he went. He was also passionate about flying model airplanes and spending time with family and friends. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.


Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dorothy Mae (Ducey) Marek, son, Richard Marek, Jr. & wife Linda of Pottstown, PA, brother, Rudolph S. Marek, Jr. & wife Donna of South Hadley, and multiple generations of adoring nieces & nephews. Richard was also a loyal caregiver to his dear wife’s cousin, Joanne Sullivan.


Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, June15, from 3-5 p.m. at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield. Funeral services will begin Thursday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home, proceeding to his 11 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at Holy Name Parish. Richard’s 1 p.m. burial, with full military honors, will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
