Rose (Manzi) Mastrangelo passed away on March 31, 2020 at the JGS Lifecare Center in Longmeadow, where she had been a resident since October 2019. She was born on July 8, 1927 to Domenico and Amibella(Bonavita) Manzi. Rose was raised in the South end of Springfield, on a section of William Street, which no longer exists, near the banks of the Connecticut River. She was proud of her Italian Heritage and to her last day, she could name the neighbors, friends and relatives, house by house, throughout her childhood neighborhood. She later worked at William Carter Co., until she married Richard Mastrangelo, also of Springfield.
Rose was a strong, hardworking and fiercely dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Along with her husband Richard, she will be dearly missed by her son John and his wife Rosanne as well as her grandchildren John and Regina. Sadly, Rose was predeceased by her son Anthony “Tony” Mastrangelo who passed in 1989.
Rose was also predeceased by her brother Salvatore “Sam” Manzi and a sister, Philomena Denise. Rose leaves behind her brothers, Frank “Chico” Manzi of Ludlow; William “Willie” Manzi and his wife Margaret of Wilbraham; along with her sisters Lucy Gentile and her husband Joseph of Springfield; Mary Gulluni and her husband Frank of Springfield; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rose’s burial took place April 3, 2020, alongside her son Tony, at St. Michael’s Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a future date at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
