Rose M. Vona

Rose Mary Vona, 88, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2021.

Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Saverio & Maria (Daponde) Vona.

Rose resided in Springfield with her mother, Mary, throughout her life; their home was the place that the entire family met for holidays, the Italian Feast or to just sit on the front porch chit-chatting for hours.

She was a devoted caregiver to her mother, and loved their time spent during Sunday afternoon drives and family events, until her mother’s passing. Her father passed years earlier but was never forgotten; she told many family stories keeping his memory alive.

She loved her extended family and many memories were created; playing cards, badminton, and taking her nieces shopping and then to lunch at the Colonial Tea Room at Steiger’s. She welcomed their spouses with open arms, making them feel like an immediate part of the family and loved babysitting their children. She was very close to her cousin Luigina “LuLu” and had great times shopping, going on day trips and going to Church.

Rose attended the High School of Commerce and worked at Carters/Gemini Clothing as a seamstress for many years until her retirement. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, attending weekend masses, along with the daily 12:00 p.m. masses and the St. Anthony Novena Masses with her siblings and nieces.

Rose will be dearly missed by her brother-in-law Rocco Basile and many beloved nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Antonette Chicorka, John Vona, Saverio Vona, Jr., and Anna Basile.

Private funeral services were held for Rose.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Church, 123 William St., Springfield, MA 01105.
