Shirley G. Climo

Shirley Grace (Butler) Climo, age 91, died December 14, 2020. She was born in Springfield, the daughter of Carlos Enrique Butler and Grace Elizabeth (Dyer) Butler. A longtime resident of both Longmeadow and Agawam, she lived in Westfield since 2003. A woman of great love and faithfulness, she leaves behind many to cherish her memory. Shirley was a graduate of Classical High School, Westfield State College and STCC. She taught in the Longmeadow Schools and at STCC. From 1983 to 1995, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at Farm Credit Bank in Agawam. After retirement she worked as a consultant for the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. Her last and favorite occupation was as nanny to grandson Sam. She sang in the Springfield Symphony Chorus under Robert Staffanson and was a member of the Christ Church Cathedral for 41 years. She served on the Cathedral Chapter for 12 years and taught Sunday School for many years. She loved serving the Lord in the church and in her daily life. Beside her love of music, she was an avid reader, but most of all, she loved her family. She was predeceased by son, Peter J. Climo, of Maine. She is survived by two sons: James Climo (Meg) of Marshall, NC; and David Climo (Cynthia) of Feeding Hills; and a daughter, Judith MacMunn (Michael) of Westfield. She has six grandchildren: Christina Climo of Feeding Hills, Matthew Rosengarten (Mitchell) of Maine, Allison Wadleigh (Andrew) of New Hampshire, Christopher Climo of Maine, and, Emily Poindexter (LeRon) of North Carolina, and Samuel MacMunn of Westfield. She has three step-grandchildren, Meghan, Patrick and Sean Wyandt. Her great grandchildren are Maegan, Ryder and Jackson Wadleigh, Katie and Donavan Poindexter and step great grandchildren Jaycee, Lincoln and Zoe. Shirley’s funeral Mass is Sunday, December 20, at 2:00, and will only be broadcast live on FACEBOOK. Please visit the link on Christ Church Cathedral, Springfield, MA’s Facebook page. Her burial will be in Hillcrest Park Cemetery at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Music Department of Christ Church Cathedral, the Dean’s Discretionary Fund or the Open Pantry’s Loaves and Fishes.
