Joseph Patrick Bryant

Joseph Patrick Bryant, 93, died Saturday, July 4, 2020 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. Son of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Foley) Bryant; he was born in Springfield, where he lived until moving to East Longmeadow in 1958.

Joseph proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict; he was assigned to the USS Braine DD630, operating a fire fighting gun, and receiving 2 Medals: Navy Occupation Service Medal with European Clasp and National Defense Service Metal. He also had the proud distinction of being the onboard, undefeated, boxing champion.

Joseph worked for American Bosch, then retired, after 40+ years, from the United States Postal Service. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Parish in East Longmeadow.

Joe loved his family, and throughout his life enjoyed time spent at the Groton Long Point, CT shore. He also enjoyed golf and his favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather & friend; and will be missed by many.

Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann (Fitzgerald) Bryant in 2014, brother, Thomas Bryant, Jr., and son-in-law Douglas Macmillan.

He leaves his loving children, Joann Villamaino & husband Charles, Nancy Jo Bryant, Kathy Jo Macmillan & his beloved grandchildren Grace & Caitlin Macmillan, along with many nieces, nephews & friends.

Out of concern for his friends’ wellbeing, Joseph’s services and burial, with full military honors, are private, due to the ongoing uncertainty of Covid-19.
